The Little Mermaid Finds a New Voice in Remake

In 1989, Disney’s The Little Mermaid ushered in a new age for animation by taking audiences under the sea to a magical subaquatic world of mermaids, handsome princes, and sinister sea witches set to the glorious tunes of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The story of a feisty mermaid driven by her love for a human to make a deal with a sea witch not only revitalized Disney as a studio, but created a new type of princess for young girls to idolize and set the standard for modern animation. It was a game changer. And now several decades later, Disney hopes to cast a similar spell with a live-action version of the animated masterwork. But does it sink or swim? While the latest The Little Mermaid, updated with inclusive casting, follows the story of the animated classic fairly well, it misses enough small nuances so that much of the charm is left by the wayside. Ariel’s fiery nature, Sebastian’s humorous frustration and Chef Louis’ hilarious “Les Poissons” are gone but not forgotten. And beyond.“It’s covering the Bay every morning, and some of it has gotten into the Delta,” said meteorologist Jan Null of Golden Gate Weather Services in Half Moon Bay, which enjoyed only one fog-free sunset all month.“This is a year where that summer pattern is setting up early,” he said.To be sure, Memorial Day weekend is always a melancholy holiday, honoring the tragic loss of young lives alongside picnics and barbeques. But why?

The Chesapeake Bay oyster population has been flourishing over the last few years, but a California based seafood guide disagrees. Seafood Watch, a well-known consumer guide about sustainable seafood, has released its latest draft and is telling people to avoid eating wild caught oysters that come from the Bay.A look at the draft shows the bay as being overfished and poorly managed, adding “current abundance levels in the Chesapeake Bay overall are still low. As a result, Seafood Watch deems eastern oyster abundance in Virginia as a ‘high’ concern.”WTOP has reached out to the organization behind the report for comment. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is behind the guide, but declined a request for comment from the Bay Journal about the rating, saying the draft assessment may change, depending on public comment. The public comment period ended last week. The findings have led to some criticism from the local industry. SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — Goals from Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota salvaged a 4-4 draw for Liverpool at Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday as the Merseyside club’s season ended in wild circumstances. Jurgen Klopp’s team had blown a two-goal lead at St Mary’s before coming back from 4-2 down to scramble a point. Gakpo and Jota both struck in the space of a minute of each other to ensure a disappointing campaign for Liverpool at least did not end in defeat. Klopp’s side has endured a troubled season that has seen it miss out on qualification for the Champions League for the first time since 2016. But there have been clear signs of improvement in recent weeks, with Liverpool heading into Sunday’s match on the back of a 10-game unbeaten streak. The visitors were 2-0 up after goals from Jota in the 10th minute and Roberto Firmino in the 14th. James Ward-Prowse — who was potentially making his final Southampton appearance — halved the deficit in the 19...Rosenqvist leads at halfway point of Indianapolis 500; Palou crashes on pit road
