Cannons Blast at the Troubadour: Having just performed at the Forum on KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas bill, Cannons are now fully warmed up for this Troubadour show. Michelle Joy and the boys massaged the crowd through an eight song set that was simultaneously hypnotic and energizing,” we wrote of that Forum show. “‘Hurricane’ and ‘Bright Lights’ were highlights, but there were no lowlights.”Their latest album is Heartbeat Highway and, on its release, Joy said, “The highway of life starts and ends with the most beautiful music in the world, a heartbeat. It’s a rhythm so strong the only right thing to do is to follow it wherever it may lead.” Truer words have never been spoken. We spoke to them back in April, when Joy said, “The mission since the beginning has just been to make music that we like to listen to, that we enjoy. Always keep it coming from the right place, and to grow together doing this project. Ryan (Clapham, guitar) and Paul (Davis, bass) grew up together,...

Poll Shows Student Debt Policy May Be Killing Biden

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:21:35 GMT

Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign comes at a unique moment for the economy and how the electorate perceives it. Looking at the economy through the standard macroeconomic lens everything points in a positive direction. Unemployment remains below 4 percent for the longest stretch of time in 50 years, and inflation has retreated without the pain of a recession many predicted. Israel kept up its airstrikes and ground operations across the Gaza Strip, where the United Nations says more than half a million people are “starving” because not enough food has entered the besieged territory. That’s roughly one out of every four Palestinians in Gaza.Tens of thousands of people are crammed into shelters and tent camps facing shortages of food, medicine and other basic supplies. A World Health Organization official who visited two hospitals in northern Gaza said they were doing more amputations because staff, electricity and other essentials are in extremely short supply. The U.N. Security Council has scheduled a long-delayed vote on a new resolution to halt the fighting in some way to allow for an increase in humanitarian aid deliveries. A territory-wide communications outage has made it difficult to confirm details about the fighting. Hamas, meanwhile, fired a barrage of rockets at Tel Aviv, underscoring the militant group’s resilience in the face of ...
