EAST GREENBUSH, NY (NEWS10) -- The Columbia boys soccer team won the Class A championship last season. They're out to defend their title in 2023. The Blue Devils got out to a hot start, taking a 1-0 lead on a Marcellus Mastroianni goal in the 20th minute. The Blue Streaks tied things up before the break, as Owen Winter connected with Xavier Ruscio on a corner kick. The stalemate lasted to the final whistle, as Columbia and Saratoga Springs played to a 1-1 draw. ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. - Last year, Richard Emery was sentenced to death for the 2018 murders of his girlfriend and three family members. On Wednesday, he was sentenced to an additional 210 years in the landmark conviction. In Sept. 2022, Emery was found guilty on four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his girlfriend, 39-year-old Kate Kasten, her two children from a previous relationship, 10-year-old Jonathan and 8-year-old Zoe, and Kate’s mother, 61-year-old Jane Moeckel. Prosecutors sought the death penalty on the murder charges. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - Big changes start Wednesday at Riverview Gardens High School after multiple fights broke out on the campus Tuesday.School district leaders are taking actions ranging from how school is taking place Wednesday for high school students to what happens with homecoming this weekend. St. Louis County Police responded to the fights and released updated information Wednesday morning about what took place.Authorities said that there were two occurrences of fights, one taking place during school hours and another after school ended. Police and wildlife officials were called to a home in Sierra Madre Wednesday morning after a bear broke into a home and enjoyed some food in the refrigerator. Officers were dispatched to the home in the 100 block of South Hermosa Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. after the homeowners arrived and called 911, the Sierra Madre Police Department said.“I was walking through my courtyard and I glanced to the left where my side door is and it was wide open,” homeowner Chelsea Mapanda told KTLA.Authorities respond to a possible bear intrusion at a home in Sierra Madre on Sept. 13, 2023. Nearly a year after California started issuing the Middle Class Tax Refund, colloquially known as inflation relief checks, a "very small number" of eligible recipients still haven't received their payments, the Franchise Tax Board said. The payments, which range from $200 to $1,050 depending on the recipient, started going out on Oct. 7, 2022. Since then, the FTB says it has issued about 7.2 million direct deposits and mailed about 9.6 million debit cards. The total amount of money sent out tops $9 billion, according to the agency. While the vast majority of those eligible for the tax refund have long received what they are due, about 5,000 new payments are still being processed, the FTB told Nexstar.
